I have a refurbished Dell Dell Optiplex 755. I currently have an intel core 2 duo e7500 (775 lga socket) that is a bottlenecking every game I play. Even games such as Europa Universalis 4 which my pc meets the recommended requirements for.

I know its an outdated socket, but I only really need a short-term solution before I get a new pc.

Thanks for your help

Solution
His processor model is the intel core 2 duo E7500 which is not even included in the Technical Guide. The guide also mentions models that "would be made available" so it's an outdated guide and those processors it includes are not all that would later be compatible with the Optiplex 755 model. A better indication of compatibility is the "Express" chipset and the FSB speed (1333 Mhz).

The Q6600 can be 60% faster than the E7500 but you can do better... the Q9650 can be 123% faster and 41% faster than the Q6600

Solution
Another suggestion to be absolutely sure the Q9650 will work in your motherboard as there is always a chance something may prevent it.. a common cause is the BIOS so it would be a good idea to update it before replacing the E7500.

Your motherboard has the Intel Q35 Express 1333 Mhz FSB Chipset which is compatible with Core2 Quad CPUs including the Q9650. Also the Core2 Duo E7500 is from Jan 18, 2009 and the Q9650 is from August 10, 2008 so the motherboard should have a compatible BIOS... but a more updated version can insure better motherboard functionality and prevent the need to remove the Q9650 to update the BIOS with the E7500 installed, and by replacing CPU a single time you'll also minimize the risk of socket pin damage. BTW read the correct procedure for replacing a socket 775 CPU.
