What is the ideal video card for my Gateway GT5662?

I'm planning on getting an Antec Earthwatts EA650 650W and a new video card to replace this stinker of a HD2400xt. I've had my eyes on the HD4850 1 gig, or maybe you guys can help with a more accurate choice. Here are my specs:

CPU: AMD Phenom x4 9500
RAM: 3 gb ddr
HD: 500 gb

What size/resolution monitor will you be using?
And what is your overall budget?
You can probably drop down a size in PSU if it gets you the next higher video card model.

If you are going to go for that much PSU power, you may as well get a top of the line GPU s well. Otherwise it's a waste to get that much.

What resolution is you monitor? That will narrow down the options.

and my budget is around less than $400, but im looking for best bang for the buck relative to my rig

And is the rest of my system...is it competent enough to warrant such video cards?

The extra $10 price difference in the EA500 vs EA650 isn't enough of a savings to get you into a higher model video card.
And with your monitor resolution of 1280x720 you'll get a good bang for the buck at not much over $230 after rebate.

For an additional $25 you could go with a newer HD 5770

My monitor is a Gateway FPD1775W TFT LCD at 17 inches

And one thing about the 4870..will it be able to fit in my case?

Sorry to be asking much...I just want to get a smooth experience installing all this stuff 😛

I did check the case and it looks like a generous amount of room for the video card and no serious issues with the power supply.
-> Just don't get excited when the Antec EA 650 power supply is going in upside down because of the big 120mm fan instead of the smaller 80mm fan on the back of the basic gateway PSU.

At that resolution even the HD 5750 would suffice. No game would drop it under 30 fps on average.
