What is the issue here?

I had long since been running my xp 2400 with a 166MHz fsb (166X13) in sync with my Twinmos PC2700 CAS 2.0 (2X256Mb) on my NF7-S.About a week ago I decided to try to push the fsb as far as possible at 1:1 fsb/memory.I first went to 176, then 181, then 186 with no problems in 3dmark03 or in short term prime95 tests. So, I decided 'f**k it' and just went straight for 200MHz 1:1, 10.5 multiplier. It worked fine! This is without changing the memory timings at all (7-3-3-2) and without increasing VDimm!

Gradually i pushed it up to 208FSB (memory still at 1:1 7-3-3-2).I have run 3dmark03 on it countless times and prime95 tested it for about 48 hours straight without issue.

However, weird things have begun happen in the last day or so.Now, when i leave my computer on for a long period of time, sometimes after a few hours or so things start to slow down.Sandra reports a cut in memory bandwidth when benched and the cpu usage is constantly at 100% for some reason, even if no programs are open. It's all very odd though because if i restart, everything goes back to normal (including the memory bandwidth and cpu usage). It can also still benchmark fine in both 3dmark03 and prime 95.
I don't understand quite what could have happened to make me lose the stability i had(like i said, i ran prime95 for up to 48 hours!).What could be the issue? My NF7-S is only a V1.0, so is not officially 200/400FSB compliant- should i perhaps increase the chipset voltage?
I would be very grateful for any help at all.

My relevant system specs are:
XP 2400 @ 208 X 10.5 with 1.775VCore
2X256MB Twinmos PC2700 1:1 (i.e.208DDR) with 2.6VDimm
Abit NF7-S v.1.0 (with newest bios)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 SATA 80GB
Volcano 7+ HSF

no matter how hard you try, you can't polish a turd. :]

How's the heat? Touch your N.Bridge heatsink see if it's getting hot, and check your CPU temperature. Increase vdimm to 2.7 or even 2.8 if you feel like voiding your warrenty.

lol messing with a AMD's settings makes lots of heat. your probably slowly frying something. buy a thermaltake volcano 11+ and put it on, it should solve your problem.

The northbridge heatsink (well, the metal bit around the fan if you know what i mean) doesn't feel hot to the touch. My cpu is generally around 44c but gets to 58-59c at full load, so that's not a problem.Case temp is usually no higher than 27c.Next time the slowdown happens i might well increase VDimm.I still don't quite understand the 100% cpu usage thing though.

twofruitz are you drunk? Volcano11 is 1 of the worst heatsinks out there.

Please buy a SLK947U with a Quiet 92mm fan that'll bring down your temp by about 10C, then try to overclock more.

Unfortunately i can't get a SLK947U because my v1.0 NF7-S doesn't have mounting holes.

SLK900A then.

OH yeah, just don't move your PC, and don't kick it when you get pissed.
