What is the maximum RAM for Dell Inspiron 17R?

I have a Dell Inspiron 17R, i5. It shipped with 6GB of RAM. Dell tells me my RAM type is:

DDR3 SDRAM - SO-DIMM 204-pin

Can I get two 8GB sticks to make 16GB of RAM? Or is 8GB the maximum I can upgrade for this laptop? I am told that each bay has a max of 4GB.

There are many different 17R's you need the Service Tag or Express Service Code to see the hardware configuration and upgradeability but 8GB is most likely the max.

If you read farther down the forum it shows that it has been successfully done. but again it will depend on your service tag or complete model number. even though some have been able to do it does not mean all will be able to. you will need the verify the exact model 17R is more like a class than a model.

Go to Crucial.com or MemoryStock.com Enter your model number or scan with their tool.
