What is the difference between motherboards and what is the importance? For example I will buy an i7 4790 and Gigabyte GTX 970 but which motherboard? Do I have to buy a Z97? What happens if I buy a cheap motherboard below 130 dollars?

For example does Asus H81 PLUS H81 suit intel core i7 and GTX 970? I do not want to buy an expensive motherboard.

The H81 chipset is not very good, limited to PCI-E 2.0 and 3Gbs drives for a decent board to use with that processor look at the Asrock H97 pro 4.
As far as the card is concerned about any would do but you need to look at the big picture.

Thank you my friend,
You mean Asrock H97 pro will work well with core i7 and GTX 970, is it?

For example is this motherboard will be suitable with core i7 4790 and Gigabyte Windforce 3x GTX 970?

The main differance is just the ability to overclock (youneed a unlocked K processor to do that) some have the extra PCI-E X16 lane that allows you to run 2 video cards in Xfire SLI.
With the parts you are using their will be 0 performance differance.

I wouldn't worry one bit about the PCIE 2.0 interface on an H81 board. It won't be a problem.

Think about it like this:

On a Z97 board, when we SLI a pair of GTX980s, they both run at PCIE 3.0 8X, which has basically the same bandwidth as a PCIE 2.0 16X configuration. Doesn't matter.

------------

The biggest problem with uber-budget boards is going to be bare minimum VRM configurations, which will run hot when powering an i7...

If you're looking for the cheapest way to get that awesome i7 + GTX970 combo... The best ways I can think of would be:

BIOSTAR Hi-Fi H81S2 + i7-4790
OR ASRock Pro4 H97 + E3-1231V3

If I buy an Asus or Gigabyte H97, will it fit well to the system of core i7 4790 and GTX 970? I do not need a Z97 as I will not overclock anything.

Yes H97 is usually fine unless you need some specific feature that Z97 brings.... SLI support, for example. They are sometimes a bit more rich on connectivity (USB ports etc) but unlikely to effect most users. Among H97 boards it's still a good idea to select something built to a standard that exceeds the bare minimum. As a general rule I avoid motherboards with bare 3 phase CPU power unless it is intended for use with a <60W TDP CPU.

If you want Asus, the H97M-PLUS and H97-PLUS are good.
If you want Gigabyte, the GA-H97M-D3H, GA-H97-D3H, and GA-H97-GAMING 3 are good picks as well.

There's also the GIGABYTE GA-G1.SNIPER B6, although it uses the B85 chipset it is haswell refresh ready out of the box. Unique green color scheme. Great onboard sound etc.

I want this motherboard, do you think it is ok with core i7 4790 and GTX 970?
