What is the point of very low end gpus (i.e. 620m) on laptops when there are integrated gpus?

Pretty much as the title describes.
For some reason whenever the GPU in my laptop gets stressed, the laptop will not recognize the charger and will start discharging the battery. This ends up letting me to be able to use the laptop for only 40 min at a time. As a result, I changed the graphic intense applications to integrated intel gpu. No problem ever since.

This got me thinking... what is the point of a very low end dedicated GPU when there is an integrated GPU?

Not sure. I have a GT 620 in an HTPC and I can say it's much better than Intel HD 3000 graphics, but above that I can't say.
