Why is it recommended to unplug the hard drive while installing windows on a SSD?

1. It 100% prevents selecting and installing to the wrong drive. Yes, this happens.
2. Far more important, Windows often puts the boot partition on the other drive, and the actual OS on the selected drive. Remove that second drive (the HDD), and no boot for you.

You don't have to, but its really a trivial thing to do and it saves you from headaches.

To make it fool-proof, to protect against inexperience builders, to remove any uncertainty. What is not plugged in cannot be messed with. A Best Practice. Is it REQUIRED? No.

You have a 1TB WD Blue SSD, and a 1TB WD Blue HDD.

The install shows Disk 0 -1TB, and Disk 1 - 1TB.
Which to select and install to?

If you're like me, you choose the Disk 0 because I always put the desired OS drive in the lowest number SATA port, just for consistency sake. I know what drive is the OS drive.

Not everyone is that diligent or consistent.

And I still have all other drives disconnected during the OS install.
