[SOLVED] What is the prupose of a USB Floppy Drive

When I set up my computer's boot order in my the bios, one choice is a USB floppy. I did a search and found it is a replacement for a floppy A drive that uses USB drives. Is this some legacy transitional hardware, for bios programs that must be loaded from an A drive, or is it pretty much unnecessary?

what old motherboard do you have?

LOL, it's a Dell 660 mini-tower; originally came with Windows 7 pro.
Motherboard 84J0R, XRIGT. It will also boot from USB Storage, and recognises a SSD has a botable hard drive but there is also a USB Floppy in the mix.

If you don't have a USB Floppy drive just disable it in BIOS, or, at the very least move it to the bottom of the boot priority list and be done with it. Unless you have a legacy need for it just ignore it. The reason for using USB for a floppy is that manufacturers long ago removed the floppy drive interface from motherboards.
