[SOLVED] What is the "Public" folder used for ?

in the "Users" folder, when does one ever save information on the "Public" folder instead of the folder with the name of the computer?
Never? Is it bad practice? Can it be useful?

They are folders that all users of this PC (each with their own storage space) can access. IE. they are not 'private' to each user.

I always knew the public folder existed, but I didn't pay much attention to it until now when someone asked about it. I have personally never had a reason to use it as I am the only user on my PC.

Very common for system administrators to use to put shortcut links onto people's desktops. Particularly in system images where the user account isn't known before loading it.
