What is the reason that iverclocking is bad

Hello!
We all know overclocking can be bad if you don't know what you do.
I want to overclock a msi gtx 1060 gaming X
and a i7 4790K, what are good everclock settings, I don't really want to try it out and what is the reason that overclocking kills your cpu/gpu is it cause of the temp or something different?

overclocking is forcing your hardware to run faster than what the manufacturer designed it to run

yu add more volts, watts and get higher fps and lots of heat

some components are ready to accept the extra load but in general, the parts will shorten their life

how much is the loss? some users sell their overclocked parts after 5 years and those parts still keep working, others will kill those parts in 1 year or less

not every gpu manufacturer does well things and you find different results reported by many users

in general, overclocking is more a hassle than a benefit, you waste electricity and get heat, noise and perhaps 10 fps more in most cases, sometimes oyu get more, but in general, it requires you to sit down and play alot with mainboard and gpu settings for hours, and still you might find that a certain game will errors in the images displayed or sudden crashes, even when other games doesn't do that
