Why can't I download the latest Nvidia GPU driver? Never had a problem until this version. Not only on my computer but my wifes as well. Mine has a MSI GTX1070, my wife has a MSI gtx960.

Solution
DDU is a third party program. Thanks though.

You wanted a solution. I gave you one and that's just the best third party program used by experienced PC users and it will be recommended when you have drivers issues.

(That's for Windows 10 64bits - GTX 1070 drivers)
  • Reboot in safe mode
  • Start DDU and choose Nvidia and click on Clean and reboot
  • Install latest drivers without geforce experience (Geforce Experience is crap for drivers update)
  • Reboot
  • Done
If you don't want to do this then I'm afraid you will have to do a manual cleanup of everything nvidia...
Yes that's what I meant....I can download it. I just can't install it. What I am trying to understand is why would I have to download third party software now to install updates I never had problems installing for the past 8 years? Is it my computer, or Nvidia or Microsoft(windows updates are ,in fact, up to date) causing this issue?

You don't have to install any third party program. If you're talking about Geforce Experience I never used it once.

You download the drivers on nvidia's website. You use DDU when you have problems (It can happen that's a computer) and you reinstall the latest drivers and it normally works.

You can uninstall the Nvidia Display Drivers using Windows ADD/REMOVE programs, reboot and install the latest drivers but when you get issues you use DDU.

what kind of installation error did you get?

I am able to download the update just fine. It is when I go to do the install I get the hang up. It just brings up the window that says " Installation can't continue.". Then it gives me the option to try again or cancel.

What is grinding my gears is it isn't just my machine. My wifes machine also gets this now as well. We have the same computers just different GPUs. As stated before I have the MSI GeForce 1070 , she has the MSI GeForce 960.

If you don't want to do this then I'm afraid you will have to do a manual cleanup of everything nvidia related drivers on the computers / registry which is what DDU does in the first place and if you still have issues after this then the problem is deeper than just drivers.

Solution
I installed it via Nvidia Geforce Experience on my laptop (too lazy to set graphic settings) without issue and on my desktop (manually from Nvidia) without issue.

The only thing that is common with both and what I do on all of my Nvidia drivers is select custom installation instead of Express installation. The reason I do this is you can check a box that says "perform a clean installation" or something similar. What it does is uninstall the current driver then install the newest one and this helps avoid issues.

Yes, I wanted a solution, just not one that involves having to add more crap to my computer. Dude ,if I rustled your pocket protector and made the tape holding your glasses together a bit sweaty, you're gonna have to deal with it.

I found my situation a bit odd in that both of my home pcs just decided to up and not install an update at the same time. So that has me thinking that someone somewhere(nerds such as yourself perhaps?) is trying to force me to upgrade yet again(think windows 98 no longer being supported here) and I am getting pretty tired of it.

So here I am om tomshardware, one of the first to pop up when asked the question WTF is going on with Nvidia update 442.50, and I get a condescending attitude for just asking a question it seems. Looks like I am going to have to go to another site and check around as this seems like it may be a bit above your "experience". Have a good one.

Roger that. Will have to go look some more and see what I can come up with thanks man.

It's not above my experience and you cannot say that because you don't even want to try the solution I gave you. You don't want to fix your issue? Fine but don't put that on me. It's on you. To me. Drivers problem is nothing more but a 5 minutes issue. I could have fixed your issue a 100 times over already.

I take my free time to help people on this forum but I sure won't fight someone who doesn't help me help him/her. Let us know when you actually try something and please don't call DDU a crappy software. It's not.

Not like your issue is unique and doesn't have solutions.
