What is the use of onboard graphics after installing graphics card

as we know that chipset of a motherboard also contains graphics processing unit, and graphics memory,
1.is their any use of onboard graphics after installing a graphics card.
2.can we use onboard graphics and the graphics card.if yes then how

1)Yes.If you have a Z68/H67 board,you can install Virtu which helps in video editing and uses the onboard GPU in idle mode(For power saving)

edit ->i google it and find that it is for sandy bridge

Then what about other boards, it looks like onboard graphics becomes useless after installing a graphics card for them, is it true

For all boards (except sandy/ivy bridge Z68/H67 chipsets) the onboard graphics are useless except for when your GPU dies and you still want to boot the PC.

on board agp will disable after you install AGP card.
