Hey there. I have a Seagate Barracuda Mobile HDD that is 1Tb from my Lenovo Ideapad 320 15IAP. I recently upgraded the laptop to an SSD. MY Lenovo was making a weird noise, but when I took out the hard drive and powered it up with my SATA to USB bridge. I found out the hard drive is responsible for the beeping/grinding noise. Does anyone know what the noise is?

the drive spins up, the clicking/beeping/grinding sound is the magnetic actuators moving the head, namely the click corresponds to the read write head movement from on location to another and on and on.
this is a normal sound for hard drives.
if you feel the drive may be failing or just want peace of mind, you can download seatools and run diagnostics on the drive.

Okay. Thank you very much. I did run SeaTools on it a few months ago and it said the drive was fine. I just wanted to make sure that sound was normal or not. I have hard drives that are 15 years older than this one and do not make a noise that sounds like that. Just wanted to be sure. :)
