Hey, can someone with arcane knowledge help me figure out what chip this is?

It's an Intel Pentium.

On the front of the package is etched:
A80502-90 SX957
ICOMP INDEX=735

Intel (R)
Pentium (TM)

C5050668-1074
INTEL (M)(C)'92'93

On the back is printed:
E4415793CC
A4 505 U
INTEL(M)(C)92,93

A80502-90
SX 957

I doubt that I'll find a use for the chip itself. (If it even works.) I picked it up from our IT department's magic bin for geekly decor at my desk. But it'd be interesting to know how to actually figure out what it is. :D

whey hey get the uber systems running :p

you could use it for old dos games or something. or just to experiment with like what would happen if you ran a straight 240v through it

Cool. Thanks. That was what I had figured (mainly because that part of the text had been repeated on both sides, so I assumed it was the most important), but I wasn't sure.

It's good to know it's the one without the fp bug too. :)

Nah. I've got DOSbox for that. Who needs an extra box sitting around when you have a reliable emulator.

The funny thing is that I don't even know if the chip works in the first place.

Drill a tiney hole through and make a key ring
Nah. Too heavy, and all those pins would stick me if I put it in my pocket!

I'll just keep it as a decorative item on the top of my monitor, sitting along side of my plastic shark eating the head of Sonny(sp?) the mascot of Cocoa Puffs on my mini Pez dispenser, my miniature Veritech action figure (was included in the package of Robotech for the GBA), a bunch of strange paper airplanes made ouf of Halls Defense wrappers, my binary clock, and a spare goniometer head from one of our instruments that I use when I work on supporting a new microscope camera.

Umm ... is that list of monitor-top decorations as damning as it sounds?

I have a P3 700mhz chip in perfect shape, riding in my (unused) ashtray of my truck! Been there for over 6 months!
That's cool. You should give it a home though. Just think, it could be folding right this minute.

Come to think of it, I should see what's in my computer graveyard. Mostly just 486s and P1s, but I probably could get my Celeron500 up and running.

Place it on the engine, that way it will be a chip off the old block.
