What is this on the Radeon hd 5770

Someone please shed some knowledge on me. I have looked all of the place and can't find the answer. Can someone please tell me what the giant metal plate is coming out of the side of this card? I just got mine in the mail from ebay and it is driving me crazy.

Seems to me you could answer that yourself by looking at it. I can't see it so....

If there's adequate fan cooling on the card and your case is well vented you shouldn't need that.
