CPU- AMD FX-6300

MOBO- ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS AM3+

GPU- EVGA GeForce GTX 750Ti

RAM- Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB

HDD- Western digital 1tb 7200rpm

CASE- Rosewill Dual Fans

PSU- Antec VP-450W

The budget is around $400 for the moment, i'd just like to know if this is okay and how well it will do.

(I'm new to building my own pc, bare with me.)

OH and what do i need to do about CPU cooling. I am kind of clueless.

Solution

An FX 6300 has to be clocked to FX 6350 speeds to beat an older i3 3225, much less a 4150. Some titles, the i3 beats even FX 8350. If that comparison was on CPU boss, you wasted your time.
all settings in ultra @ 1080p with max AA

shadow of mordoe=r - 25-30 fps

crysis 3 - 14fps

witcher 2 ~ 18fps

COD AW - 22fps

note these are approximate values and may get higher or lower depending on the scene

hope this helps!

PS - this is with 8gb ram , i would suggest upgrading that 4 to 8

What do you want it to be capable of? Older games would do pretty well. Some newer AAA titles might be playable on lower settings and the newest, most demanding games ( think AC Unity and FC 4 ) will not be playable at all.

Thanks, i planned on 8gb anyway. Also is there anything you would change but not pay out the ass?

I don't plan on playing any AAA titles or such, thats why I have a ps4, source games and what not, they will run okay?

I'm not building it for major titles and games like that. How will it do with Arma 3?

If sticking with the FX 6300, change the board to a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3. It is a better board, and should be similarly priced. I agree with others, go with the 8gb. Change the PSU to a Evga 500b. It is a decent budget PSU. Then I would look at a better GPU. Next step up is an R9 270/270x.

go for it in this order

1. CPU - fx 8320

2. PSU 550- 600W from antec.xfx /segate

3.GPU- r9 280 - note the power color one is available for 140$ - important in this stiuation

note-You need a good quality 550W with at least 43 Amps on the 12V rails.

Unfortunately, no, I do not.

Also am I going to have problems overheating orrrrr?

Arma 3 can be quite demanding due to its very big scenery - i sometimes see a bit of slow down with my 7970. but running it on low - medium settings you should be ok

Alrighty. I have been making a mess in my head about building this thing, I don't want to buy the wrong parts, or have something not work.

So Updated list:

CPU: Fx6300
MOBO: Gbyte GA- 78LMT-USB3
GPU: R9 270x\
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 4gbx2
HDD: WD 1tb
CASE: Rosewill Dual fans
PSU: evga 500w
CPU COOL: Coolermaster hypertx3

That would be a decent setup. Just as another option. You might want to consider an i3 4130/4150/4160, and an H97 pro4m. Performance is better, as the FX would have to be overclocked to compete, runs cooler, uses less wattage, and would give you an upgrade path to a better CPU, should you want to upgrade it next year.

Well I went from a $400 to a $530 build. I might be able to swing it with sales online i suppose. Amazon has been very generous recently with price drops. Should I stay clear from newegg or is it okay? I have heard awful things about them. I also know tiger direct, but they have everything full price I think.

Wheres the best place to order from in your opinion, and why?

every online shop i found is cheaper in some places than others, i have had some real bargains on Amazon. (but i like Amazon :))

but like Logain said, i would consider Intel - even a lower end I5 is better than the FX6300

i also just looked up a comparison with the i3 4150 and the fx6300 and i'm not seeing to much difference.

the i5 is too much for me i think

no problem then mate - i know how these things can slowly creap up and before you know it its £1000

stick with what you got its good enough.

(ive recently upgraded from an I5 2400 - I5 3570K - not worth the £150 in my opinion but i only did it because i got it for £25)

I gotcha, I appreciate the suggestions though friend
