What is TRUE 2K?

Solution
The 2k resolution is a term with a definition. It was created by Digital Cinema Initiatives. As far as I know it's defined to be 2048 x 1080 pixels. The name "2k" refers to the x-axis alone. It's influenced by the definition of the kilobyte as being 1024 bytes (which originally came from IBM). So it's 2048 pixels and not 2000 or so.

further details can be obtained here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2K_resolution

True 2k is probably a term created by some manufacturer to say that monitor has a resolution of 2048 x 1080 pixels, because there are also some smaller resolutions of which is said to be 2k, too. See the Wikipedia article.
