Okay, so I'm not sure what is using all of my RAM. I think I have a memory issue in general, as the Photos application (I am in Windows 10) seems to have a memory leak or something, as I can only have one image open and the program itself will eat up an upwards of 500mb-1.5GB depending on how big the image is.
I've also been having issues where whenever I reach 6.5GB out of 8GB of RAM, the most RAM intensive application open at the time (most of the time it's a game or Chrome) closes down and crashes. A single chrome tab with Youtube open uses about 500-700MB which seems reasonable to me considering it's Chrome and I am playing 1440p video through YouTube.
However, I can have ALL applications closed and all unneeded background processes closed and my RAM usage sits at roughly 35% at LEAST at all times, which is roughly 3.2GB-ish. There's no way any of the processes that are shown in task manager are taking up that much, according to what it shows each is taking up. Plus, it wouldn't seem like adding them up would take up that much RAM either.
I'm running DDR4 at 2400MHz in single channel (of course I am going to upgrade soon to dual channel 16GB so hopefully that will fix everything anyway), but until then, what the heck could be eating up an upwards of 2GB (let's say all other processes take up a combined 1GB hypothetically)...? Any other OS I've ever installed (this is a new PC that is less than a month old) has usually only been around 1.2-1.5GB at idle with nothing but task manager open. Anyone have thoughts?
