This is more of a general query than a problem.

I have 8GB RAM on this system and 2.3 of it is being used.
I only have chrome open so is Windows using 2GB just for the OS?

Specs:

8GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM
i5 4460 Quad Core CPU @ 4.1GHz
GTX 770 GPU (4GB)
Windows 8.1 64 bit

If more info is needed I can provide it.

Thanks

Usually it is Memory used for Processes. Each process has a certain amount of memory committed to it. Which you see is the Total amount being used by the process. For example, avp.exe is using 393,000 Kb but it it only really using about 70,000 kb in the Working Set. Each process demands a certain amount of Memory to it and it is being considered used. Steam.exe is Steam. Avp.exe is my Anti-Virus protection. These process start up once you log in onto your computer. So if you have a lot of processes on start up it would explain why you already have 2 GB in use. So the Startup Programs you have is what is using the memory, no just the OS.
