What is usmt2 unc

Hello,
I still don't know the answer to this question: can I delete all USMT2.UNC folders on all three drives (C,F,G) on my computer? Drive C is partitioned as Drive C and Drive G. Drive C has no USMT2.UNC folders. Drive G has one folder, which comes from a copy of Drive F. Drive F is an external USB hard drive, which I used for storage when I transferred files, etc. from my previous computer. All my settings from the old computer have transferred completely and without any problems. All in all, I have four instances of the USMT2.UNC folder on my computer: three on drive F and one on drive G. Can I delete all four? And what does USMT2.UNC have to do with IMG00001?

USMT2.UNC is the folder that is created when you use the Windows "File and Settings Transfer Wizard". The program creates an image file for every 2-2.5gb worth of information it compiles during the process. the USMT2.UNC file is the file that File and Settings Transfer Wizard looks for when moving the old settings and files into the new computer. If you have successfully transfered all of your documents from the "old computer" to the "new computer" you can delete them. If you have no idea what they are or where they came from, and you never used the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" then you probably dont need them. But make sure no one else needs them either if its a shared computer.

Thanks for your help. But how does USMT2.UNC and IMG00001 relate? I have three instances of USMT2.UNC on my F drive (external USB hd), all of which have IMG00001 in their name. Plus they each have a Windows Media Player icon beside them. Windows Media Player? What's up with that? Gilbo

the IMG file is whats created by the WIndows Transfer Wizzard. It creates IMG files. Its as if windows takes a picture of EVERYTHING you want it to for the transfer. It stores these IMG files up to a certain point, then creates a second IMG file (IMG00002). The USMT2.UNC folder is what the Windows Transfer Wizzard looks for when you go to a new computer. I do not know why the program calls it this, but thats what windows decided to call it. Its simply the holding tank for the IMG files. And when you try to transfer settings and files to the new computer, it is this folder and IMG file combination that the system looks for.
