What Is WMM Qos

My router doesnt have an exact Qos option. It says WMM(WifiMultiMedia) Qos so how is that any different or similar? Is there any chance I can prioritize game traffic with this WMM Qos if it is similar to regular Qos(quality of service)? Here is a screenshot: https://snag.gy/fTKUxn.jpg

It is designed for voice traffic. Even if you were to set your game traffic as voice it does not solve much. You seldom have capacity issues on the wireless, you normally overload your internet connection well before since the wireless is much faster. It does not fix the major issue of wireless of interference from external and internal sources causing delays and loss of data.

It only work on wireless which you should not be using for your games anyway.

Your router needs a fairly advanced form of QoS. The part that most routers have is the ability to prioritize data you send. Unless you have a extremely small internet connection you will almost never overload your upload rate....assuming no bit torrent.

Most times the problem is people overloading download bandwidth. It tends to be very hard to get a configuration that works well. The ISP is in full control and if the decide to drop our game traffic and send netflix flix traffic there is little you can do after the fact to get the game data back.

You need a router that can set fixed rates for download traffic so you can restrict other machine but it is not as simple as it sounds.

Bottom line what you are doing is forcing someone else in your house to have worse or maybe unusable performance so your game can run. It depends if you can solve this via a agreement to limit how much downloads and the rate video is consumed by others in the house when you are playing games.

Even if you did implement a QoS you still need a agreement or you will likely make other mad.
