What is wrong with my onboard ethernet

So i had my laptop and my desktop connected via lan cable and everything was working fine. I was able to copy files and share internet but someone tripped on the cable and it was ripped out of the laptop. After that it didnt detect a connection so i took my laptop apart and i saw that the golden pin things in the ethernet port were out of place so i carefully put them back where they were supposed to go. After putting my laptop back together it seemed to work. It now detected that it was connected to the network but now it doesnt detect the other computer and file copying and internet sharing no longer works. What is wrong and how can i fix this? Is there anyway to fix it without buying a usb adapter?

There is most likely physical damage done. You will need to replace the ethernet port.

Is it possible to replace the onboard ethernet or do i have to replace the whole motherboard?

You can get the rj45 socket but most people do not have the skills or the tools to replace it without destroying the board. I suspect you are going to be stuck with a adapter of one form or another.
