Heres my story. So yesterday it was late, and I was just getting offline. I shut down my PC like normal and while the windows screen was JUST going away and the pc was like 5seconds away from shutting down I flipped the switch on the back to shut it completely down so it doesnt draw any power and doesnt keep my keyboard lit up so my LEDs last longer. Now I am thinking at this point nothing is wrong and I went to bed. Just turned the PC on and the GPU doesn't display screen. I tried the HDMI port on the back (which I think is the Motherboard) and it works! But my GPU screen or w/e you call it doesn't show anything and says no signal. My GPU fans are spinning and looks OK? I dont know because I am new to EVERYTHING about pc and didn't even build it my self because I didn't wanna screw anything up.

My question is how do I know what parts I just messed up? Its not my CPU, its probably my GPU, it can't be my ram because its detecting 8gb of ram and is working, it can't be my motherboard, nor my HDD so at this point... Did I just fry my GPU?

Solution
Just to reinforce your lesson...NEVER flip the power switch on the PC when it is operating!!!

To clarify, you were able to load into windows as normal and use the system when the screen was plugged into the HDMI port of the motherboard?

If this is the case, uninstall the drivers for your GPU completely, reboot, then re-install the drivers, reboot and see if the system recognizes the card. If so, boot down...without flipping the power switch...change the cables round and try using the gpu again to drive the monitor.

On a side note, unless you are leaving the house and plan not to return for more than 48 hours, you can turn the power off when the system is off and has cooled down (some fans continue spinning after shutdown to cool the...

You are not saving any LED's or any of that nonsense by turning the power off. It's an LED, unless you physically meddle with it, it never really dies.

Ok so how would I do this? Do I go into device manager, find my GPU, then click uninstall? I have Windows 8.1 btw. Please tell me how to uninstall the drivers I am a noob.

I noticed this when I booted my pc that for some reason it uninstalled my Nvidia Control Panel? Is there a way I can reinstall this? Also notice the dates... They are VERY recent probably because I updated my GPU at that day? idk but there are some ones from today? I dont know but there is no control panel for Nvidia I dont know!

Ok, keep calm and carry on. Your headlessness is transmitting through the text.

The dates are when each component was installed. If you have re installed the correct and latest drivers, you should have the control panel back.

In that tutorial on how to install them etc it says you need to have the control panel first... I do not have that control panel? I am wondering... Should I just do a system restore point? Like a recent restore point from like 2 days ago? Or should I just do a full system restore?

Try and get one from before "the incident" all you need is to have it back temporarily. I suppose

Can we get this straight: Did you successfully reinstall the drivers?

I was not able to uninstall them because I do not have the Nvidia Control Panel. Thats why I said it didn't work as in the system restore point didn't redownload the nvidia control panel. In speccy this is what its saying. http://gyazo.com/cf39f24240e7c3c6f2348d55c9aac5aa

Ok, ignore the guide and all the other stuff, just download the nvidia drivers and install. See if this executes successfully.

Ok...they do use pictures to help you...just follow the instructions closely. You are looking for it in the wrong place.

You are supposed to do this:

1) Go into your Control Panel

2) Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon

3) Select the NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers from the list of programs.

4) Click Change/Remove or Add/Remove button.

5) Confirm with Windows that you wish to continue with the uninstall
