What is wrong with this monitor?

I just bought this Dell U2311H off ebay. It was suppose to be new with 3 year warranty and all. I hope it is. What is this color variation you can see in the picture? (The rainbow like pattern at the bottom.) Do I need to send it back?

Does it happen with other solid colors?

Yes it is there all the time. Harder to see on black but still there.

Yeah, I would call Dell and ask for an RMA. Tell them you have issues with color uniformity due to the fact that you see arcing bands of darker colors across your monitor's screen.

I contacted the seller from ebay and they are going to set up a RMA through Dell for me. I was just wondering if anyone would know what might be causing this.

I would say it's a manufacturing flaw. It happens from time to time especially since a 1920 x 1080 resolution LCD panel has over 6 million little tiny parts to it.
