What is XMP and should I enable it ?

I cant quite get my head around what XMP is and if i should enable it .

pc specs :
amd athlon x4 760k
sapphire redeon r7 260x
corsair 600w psu
Crucial Ballistixs sport 8gb ddr3
MSI a78m-e35

XMP (Extreme Memory Profile) is basically a non-JEDEC approved SPD table for your RAM that is programmed into the sticks. In other words, By setting XMP you can run the sticks at their actual RATED speed (GHz) and timings even if it requires more vDIMM to do so :)

It is very useful in getting the most out of your RAM

Will it cause my RAM to act any differently heat wise ?

It's basically In some way overclocking your RAM, even though you're trying to get the right amount of performance and GHz it says it can do. So yes, this will cause more heat, but not much at all. I have XMP enabled on my RAM and there is hardly any difference in temperature. You'll get more of a temperature change with your CPU not RAM :)
