I have opened the box and the battery cycle count was 5. Is this normal for a brand new device?
What is your battery cycle count for brand new m2pro and m2 max series before any charging out of the box?
Thanks...

It is not normal and not to be expected from a brand new product. Mine (M1) had 0 counts as it should be. 5 cycles means that the battery power has been already ''drained'' out entirely to count for a cycle (whether partial or continued), so I'd say your laptop is not brand new (no matter how anyone else puts it, the battery life was already placed in use even before you got to use the product) and therefore should contact their support service.

I've been using my MBP M2 2023 for about 2 weeks now and the cycle count is 4 after that. I did not check out of the box. I have used it on and off the charger in these 2 weeks but did not let it drain to below 50%.

Is a battery cycle counted once its completely drained? Does 4 indicate that it has been drained to 0% 4 times?

you can see the definition at the bottom of this page

Thanks @emm06 I have my answer now.

I would not worry if your count was 5. Its highly likely that it was QA'd during the build and test phases which resulted in the counts. Its also possible that the battery was salvaged from a new defective machine and once it passed QA, was placed in your unit.

It's normal to have Battery cycle count around 3-5 out of the box, As there is a process of testing the battery.
