What kind CPU Single or Duel and What Parts replace/upgrade?

I'm not sure what best for me in pirces for long time without need to upgrade? So here is

my homework, so what kind of CPU should I buy? Single or Duel? I read about Duel having

problem with some games, but no problem future new game, I think, Here's most game I'm

playing, "Stronghold 2", "X-3 The Reunion" "Civilization IV", "The Sims 2", "Morrowind",

Future is Oblivion, Dragon Age, Hero's Might and Magic 5 (I heard Beta said bug but it's

dose not come out yet!), Spore,ect...Will it work on older game like (Cool

Storyline)Baldur's Gate,Neverwinter Nights(Bah!) Age of Empire rise of rome, ect, of

coures very rarely or never go back to my old game though, only newer, hehe. So should I

pick Duel over single CPU? I dont know, I'm heavy gamer like most everyone here. So

Yeah, I did pos about it but that's Post fully build new computer but costly money but

If you are a heavy gamer, then I do not see the need for a x2 .. I mean, it is unlikely you will be gaming and converting video at the same time.

IMHO, Duel processors for home PC's is just a marketing gimmic.. unless you are going to run a couple of heavy apps at the same time, I do not see the point. Generally, when you play, you shut down all other apps anyway.

I disagree; you could move all your processes to the second unit while gaming. I don’t game, however if I did I would want to move monitoring software (TSRs), large ripping projects and the like to another processor while I game. There are also hints in the market that some games will be coming out later this year with multithreading while there are patches to current games to take advantage to newer processors. And if you have the money, why not

This is correct. The OP mentioned wanting to play Oblivion, and that is going to get a massive boost from multicore processors. Also, there's a few older/current games which support it. I can remember UT2k4 and Morrowind (very limited) off the top of my head. Most games currently being developed will be supporting dual/multi cores, like UT2k7.

I should mention that any game being ported from (or will be ported to) the Xbox360/PS3 will support multicore processors since those console systems both have them.

ive been runnnig dual CPU PCs since 2001. Never had ANY problems with games that related to multiple CPUs.

In general i find that dual cpu systems while more expensive up front will last you Much longer than a single cpu will.
