What kind of performance should I be expecting with this PC?

I am planning to buy the Gateway FX6860-UR10P for around $800.

Will I be able to run games like FarCry 3 and Battlefield 3 on High-Ultra setting on 1440*900?
I think I found the optimal PC for $800, anyone want to suggest something else?

That will probably run Far Cry 3 on medium to high settings but probably with little to no AA. I would recommend a better video card if you want to run the game on high to ultra.

Really nice build. If handbuilt for gaming it would have less CPU, less memory and much more video. As a general purpose system it has nice balance and low power consumption.

You'll be limited by the HD7770. Look up game frame rates for it. Good news -- if you buy this PC, you have all the CPU and memory you need for a long time. You'd just need to upgrade video to stay current. The HD7770 is an excellent card. Low power. It'll game nicely, but generally not ultra.

HD7770 is a $110 part. You need to step up to a $170 part (HD7850 1GB) and maybe more than that to see a really noticeable difference.

That's a poorly optimized PC for gaming purposes.
1) Graphics card is the most important part of a gaming PC, so get the best you can afford (Radeon 7870 offers nice price : performance ratio)
2) 12GB of RAM suggest that it won't run in dual channel mode which will severely degrade memory performance (or it has some silly combination of 2x4+2x2GB kits); 8GB (2x4GB 1600MHz kit) is plenty for gaming
3) i7 3770K is a very nice CPU indeed, but when you're on a budget there are ways to better spend your money (i5 3570K if you're going to overclock, non K if you aren't interested in such witchcraft); again, look at 1)

here is the problem i see. the 7770 is the same as the 5770 (except for an extra gig of ram) which wasnt as good as the 4850. 128k bandwidth is the issue. go anything 78xx and you will get a big boost. other than that the build looks good enough to play any game.

To install the Windows 8 Pro upgrade, your PC must be running Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 Consumer Preview, or Windows 8 Release Preview.

In other words you'll need to download and install Release Preview, then upgrade with the $40 key (make sure you select the option 'create media' so you'll be able to avoid having to reinstall Release Preview again and use 'Refresh PC' option in case your install goes bad).

Also don't forget to grab Media Center for free here:

Both offers are valid until end of January.

Actually hd7770 is faster than a 5770(6770) which in turn is faster than a 4850. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html You may be looking at data from when the hd7770 first came out when the drivers were bad. At that time hd7770 was same as 5770/6770. Now its better.

Agree the 2GB mem on the Hd7770 makes no sense or any difference. The Hd7770 cant anti-alias strong enough to need the memory at high resolutions.
