[SOLVED] what kind of ram or how many should i buy? (laptop)

i going add a 4 gb ram to my old laptop, im worried that it may perform worse than the previous state(4 gb) because the aftermarket ram might be compatible with dual channel mode. should i buy a new ram kit and ditch the old or jut buy one stick only. if the answer is one stick only, should i buy a stick that is compatible with dual channel? laptop: asus s550ca
