What kind of SSD to buy?

So I am in the market for an SSD and i wan't to know which kind to buy. My budget is $360. I have an extra PCIe port so i could go that route, or I have an m.2 port and a hot-swap bay. I have a Z270 gaming M5 and I've heard bad things about the m.2 heatshield and how it could raise temps. I'm not sure of any downsides to a 2.5 inch drive, though I might have to buy some adapter to fit in my 3.5 inch bays.

That's what I've heard but I have also heard that the m.2 heat shield could effect the performance of the SSD.

Nah, I doubt it, should have no effect.
If it does, just contact MSI and complain.
