What makes a good graphics card in the Name?

Just wondering just starting to learn about computers, but what is the difference between

EVGA 04G-P4-3748-KR GeForce GT 740 Superclocked 4GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card

and a

MSI GTX 980 GAMING 4G GeForce GTX 980 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support G-SYNC Support Video Card

What should I be looking for in my graphics card, I understand the 4GB. But the bits, Express 3.0, G-SYNC, PCI, I have no idea what that is. Thank you for your time.

It's the chipset that truly matters, The GTX 980 chip is substantially more powerful than the GT 740, making it the better card.

In the name not much but the name of the chip that it's in the card. For gpus it's all about chips, the memory and the bus width are not precise references and only matter if you are using massive resolutions.
