I want to get a 144Hz monitor for gaming, but which of these two is better?

or

I have a GXT 970 along with a very decent rig.
I've asked some previous questions here about compatibility with graphics cards+cables and I'm happy to buy either one of these, but if you have another screen in mind I'd love to hear (I've already got another one in mind I might get from a previous posts reply).

Solution
hmmm...care to consider Acer XB270HU? hehehehe...I know...this is one of the best monitors currently available but hell expensive.
Mine will come in a few days.

The 24 in. monitor will be much better than the 27 in. At 1080p the 27 will look like garbage, pixel density will be trash and the image will look pretty bad unless you sit far away from where the monitor is placed. Grab the 24 in. model

No it won't look like garbage on a 27" monitor. The difference is literally .4 feet more to when the 27" becomes retina as well. Where did you get that from? If .4 feet further away is a problem (from 3 to 3.4) then yes 24 will be a better buy. However, it's still very hard to tell the difference between the two, even if you sit closer than 3 feet...

I've seen a ton of threads pointing out this issue for 27"s, but I couldn't find any complaints for that specific screen. I'm inclined towards the 24" simply because I like its design more which isn't a very valid reason (you can spin it around, and view it sideways/upside-down).

But thank you both for your answers, I still haven't decided but all input is helpful and very appreciated.

I would not get any 27" 1080p monitors.
If you want 27", you will have to go at least 1440p.
1080p on 27" is not good, you will see pixels @ 3 feet away.
People, including me, sit about 3 feet away from the monitor or even less than 3 feet.
If you sit like 4-5 feet away, 1080p on 27" is good.
There is a connection between screen size, pixel density and your distance to the monitor.
Give it a try on store near home, if you can find those monitors.

Well you obviously havent used that many monitors, or you are partially blind. I have a 27 in. 1440p 24 in 1080p and a 27in 1080p and the difference is very noticeable. The 27 in. looks like garbage side by side with the 24. There is no way around it.

I have to disagree. I'm definitely no monitor guru, but if it's beyond retina, why is my 1440 27" monitor so MUCH sharper than my 27" 1080 monitor. It truly is night and day.

I want to spend £600 on PC upgrades, I'm getting an MSI GTX 970 and most likely this screen: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-VG248QE-24-inch-LED-Monitor/dp/B00B19T7QC/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1431591941&sr=1-1&keywords=Asus+VG248QE

And I will be gaming, related post: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-2644287/screen-compatibility-graphics-cards.html
