What monitor should I get : 1440p IPS or 4k TN?

Solution
I prefer Samsung PLS panels for gaming, but any IPS, or VA panel at 1440 is awesome. I can barely even look at a TN monitor anymore. Washed out, dull and full of greys.

I don't think you can beat the Korean 1440p, 120hz overclockable monitors for the price still. I'll link a few.

4k is really for the high-end enthusiasts for now, since GPU isn't quite powerful enough to drive 4k resolutions comfortably just yet. 1440p IPS should serve you well until 4k becomes more accessible.

That being said, I don't personally think a monitor should be based solely on it being a 'TN' or an 'IPS/PLS/VA', since bad type of any panel will look bad (just TN is better at being bad), and a good panel will still look good. IPS does have a better out of the box experience though.

Yeah, they are actually really popular brands in Asia. Search for Qnix, X-star, Wasabi, Crossover, and Yamakasi. All use Samsung or LG panels. Can't go wrong. Can find them mostly on Ebay and Amazon.

Some very reputable ebay sellers are: green-sum, accessorieswhole, and dream-seller.

To be honest, the 32 qnix or the 30 yamakasi are both killer. Going to be a tough choice, but a fun choice.

Here's a forum thread on the 32. http://www.overclock.net/t/1492033/qnix-qx323qhd-new-monitor-discussion/100

There are posts about other monitors there as well. I think the Yamakasi is newly released.

I myself have a qnix 27" evo II, matte finish overclocked to 120hz for 6 months now and love it. I'm tempted to buy the 32" or the 30". Arghhh!

What is the pixel perfect version for? I did some research and apparently they come with no dead pixels. <--- This is scary. Dead pixels sounds scary. I don't want to buy a monitor with dead pixels.

Dead pixels are a very, very minimal risk buying any monitor. From your local retailer, amazon, anywhere. It happens in the manufacturing process. It's about as common as getting a lemon video card or CPU in the mail. You can pay extra for them to check before shipping that no dead pixels are present. I never bothered or did any of my 7 friends on teamspeak that bought the same monitor as I. No dead pixels for any of us. It's a rare lemon.
