What monitor should I get?

With a GTX780, I suggest a 2560 x 1440 IPS monitor such as this:

A refresh rate of 60 is probably all your graphics card can sustain anyway.

If you are a bit adventurous, look for a Korean version which you can find on ebay, direct shipped.
They come under various names such as catleap and yamakazi.
Forums with actual users seem to be very satisfied.
Here is one example:

A gtx 780 is £400, why couldn't it sustain a higher than 100 fps rate? 60 seems too little for smooth game play.

Crysis 3 will bring gtx 780 down to its knees on 1440p monitor...(unless it the Ti version)

Other latest games also don't drive a 1440p monitor with a single gpu...

Ur best bet is a 1080p monitor where u will get frame rates of 50-100 fps depending on games

So which monitor should I get?

Also I looked at monitors like the 'Overlord tempest' but they aren't sold in the UK and they look like a sketchy brand anyways.

Most monitors can refresh at 60fps.
If your card can generate frames faster than that, you can get tearing or stuttering.
There is no great single solution to that.
In time, g-sync will be available for monitors to clear that up.
It is usually best to synchronize the display presentation to 60fps.

One advantage of a higher resolution monitor is that you do not need to be so aggressive with aa to straighten out lines.
That takes some load off of the graphics card.

Regardless, you get a wider field of view.

Any 1080p monitor is okay .

I use dell u2412m but every one has brand preference. Just buy a reputable brand

I should remind you if you play intensive games like crisis 3 metro 2033 u need a 780 to get playable frame rates with maximum settings and eye candy AA

A 770 wouldn't work

So no its not pointless as u think

The big thing I like about IPS panels is the wider viewing angle, 178/178.
Cheaper panels make you keep your head centered so the image does not get washed out.
170/160 might be typical.

For photo work, color accuracy is important.
For gaming less so.
Regardless the nvidia drivers allow you to customize the colors to your preference.
