Hey Guys, im building a new computer, build below but really need help with which monitor to get!! its very overwhelming becaue there is a wealth feedback on other components and there seems to be a general consensus on which parts are idea for a gaming build...

With monitors the discussion is normally how do i fix this problem with my monitor. there are very little reviews on pc part picker or new egg/amazon. for this reason i come to you guys for help!

the montior im looking at now is the Dell S2716DG 144Hz 27.0" Monitor. its not IPS but it does have gsync and only costs about 450 bucks!

im open to suggestions here... price isnt a limiting factor but obviously im not spending 3k on a monitor... could you guys give me some suggestions so i can do some reaseach and make a more informed decision... also feel free to comment on the build

That monitor is not bad, especially for $450 and it is a GSYNC which will go well with that GPU. Personally I think IPS is over rated, IPS normally has a higher refresh rate but man you can view it from the side even though you will be looking right at it.

That said the only thing in your build I would change is the CPU cooler. The Hyper 212 Evo is meh. It is fine as a cheap replacement for the stock cooler but if you plan to overclock, especially since you are getting a K series CPU, then I would either get a high end air cooler (Noctus, Phanteks etc) a nice CLC (Corsair Hydro H115 would work great with that case) or even a custom loop liquid cooler. Anything but the 212 Evo. Other than that the system looks pretty solid.

One other...
I will personally never ever buy a monitor without adaptive sync technology, be it g-sync or freesync. It's THAT good(even moreso considering that 1440p is a demanding resolution and you will not always get ideal framerates. G-sync aleviates this).
Basically, you choice is between the speed of TN and the colors of IPS. Pesonally, IPS all the way. I find the 75Hz of my monitor sufficient. In this argument aswell, you must consider that you will NOT be pushing constant over 100 frames per second any time soon in 1440p. And if your card cant handle the high framerates theres no point in having such high refresh rates.

So look for something with IPS(or VA even) and G-sync as musts and out of what you find choose witch has the higher refresh rate.

1) The TN panel like most for that Dell proves to be inferior to IPS for colour and viewing angles with colour starting to get washed out slightly off angle.

2) GSYNC is awesome.

Unfortunately it does boil down to you getting what you pay for. An IPS + GSYNC is the best you can do for a gaming monitor (or IPS + FreeSync for AMD).

So... not sure what to tell you.

After using IPS I coudn't go back to TN, so that's a deal-breaker for me right there.

This DELL monitor appears to be taking a so-so TN panel to save a lot of money, add GSYNC and aim it to those people like you looking for GSYNC who don't want to spend more than $500. unfortunately, you then get SMOOTHER GAMING at the expense of the overall image quality

One other side not, might be worth waiting since we are pretty close to the launch of both Polaris (AMDs new 14nm GPU) and Pascal (nVidia 16nm GPU). Both should perform better than current gen using less power.

Honestly, out of IPS and G-sync, i'd rather live withour IPS :)

Acer XB270HU

1440p 144hz IPS with Gsync. Extremely low input lag. There is another monitor on-par with this Acer. It is the Asus ROG Swift PG279Q. Strangely it has an HDMI input. It is my understanding HDMI can't achieve 1440p @144hz. The Acer is displayport only.

I recommend the Acer because I have one, the Asus one appears solid as well though. Good idea going for an adaptive sync monitor. I blew it off until I used it for myself. Is it worth an extra $300? Well it is debatable. I don't regret buying into it though.

New tech is always around the corner so you shouldn't let that stop you from upgrading.
Have you looked at Ultrawide screens? I just got one a few weeks ago and I love it.

Another vote for the XB270HU - excellent monitor and doesn't compromise on any features.

Consider the XB271HU as well, since it has a better bezel (some people complain about the glossy bezel on the 270).

+1 on the ultrawide
-1 on not waiting: it's a month and a half away and er're talking about a node transition> not the usual 6 months away and a big "maybe"

The only downside to a Ultra Wide is support. I can tell you that not every game has native support for UW screen ratios and probably wont due to most games following whatever the living room uses which is still 16:9 even with 4K and 8K.

so you are saying it is worth the wait for the grfx card?

Yes. We're talking a couple of months max.
Also, do check out some ultrawide monitors and don't worry about support. That is only a thing now bu twill not be for long. Besides, the few and far between games that don't support 21:9 natively and also haven't been fixed by the guys at http://www.wsgf.org/ will play with black bars on the side whitch equates to playing on a standard 16:9( 23.5" in the case of 29" ultrawides and 27" in the case of 34" ultrawides.
