What monitor to get for 120fps

Mar 31, 2014
Hey, I play fortnite and standard fps is capped at 60, since my monitor is only 60hz. If I select unlimited fps, I get around 130ish I just can't see it.

I'm looking to buy a new one so i can see the max fps I am able to run. Just had a few questions:

1. Will any monitor with 120hz or more be able to display the 120fps?
2. Currently I run 1600x900 resolution, will there be a big difference if I get 720? (I don't think my pc is good enough for 1080)
3. If you have any recommendations when getting a monitor it would be appreciated, not trying to spend more than 150$ (I can buy used from Craigslist or something)

Thanks guys, here's my pc specs if it matters

CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor ($179.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASRock H97 PRO4 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($88.98 @ SuperBiiz)

Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($53.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: MSI Radeon R9 280
Case: Corsair SPEC-02 ATX Mid Tower Case ($59.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: EVGA 600B 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($49.99 @ NCIX US)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24F1ST DVD/CD Writer ($14.99 @ Newegg)

1. Yes
2. Even if you got a 1080P monitor you can adjust it for a lower resolution and the 120+hz, the monitor should be your least upgraded part so you'll want something good enough for at least a few years.
3. If you live near Mass I can part with my VG248QE (Asus 1080P/144hz) for $150 as I have my ultrawide and 4K HDTV.

I only want to add one thing before you asked the questions and since the answers provided are pretty good.

You can see how much fps you are able to run even with your current monitor, just select your unlimited fps and that's the frames you will run, even with a monitor with a refresh rate of 240 Hz.

Also if you are upgrading stuff and you complain about your performance, get a better GPU, even used. I think even a 970 will help you a lot and they should be cheap. And by help you a lot I mean like from 100 fps to 150 at least.
