Hi Everyone,

I recently just purchased a GTX1080 and this is the very first time I've went all out on buying a computer with such high end specs. Realizing that I would not be able to get the full potential out of my graphics card without getting a monitor best suited for it. I've been reading up online that there are a few factors when it comes to connectivity and types of display as well. Apparently most monitors are using DP 1.2 and new monitors costing way more than I'm willing to pay coming out with DP1.4 also there are things like HDMI 2.0

Simply put I need suggestions on a monitor best suited for this graphics card.
Ideally my thinking is "Hey its a graphics card that supports 4k" therefore I need a 4k monitor. I only like to have just 1 monitor so "I want a big monitor" and I have a PS4 I'd like to attach to it so "I need HDMI connectivity" and I ended up looking at LG 27UD68-W 27in 4K UHD IPS FreeSync Gaming Monitor which comes to $719 not sure if this is a good pick.

But I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on what they purchased and why or what would even be better than what I had picked out before I end up buying something I might regret.

dont get freesync it is not compatible with nvidia cards (will still work, but you wont get the benifits from freesync) Look into a Gsync monitor which is what works with nvidia cards. Other than that it is somewhat up to you and your preferences, 4k is great, but there is also 144hz, unfortunately im too poor to know much about those :p

The 1080 isn't an all-around 4k card. 1080 SLI is an all around 4k GPU setup, but not a single card for your target FPS. IMO a G-Sync QHD monitor would be nice, possibly with a higher refresh rate as radioactive said.

I can recommend the Asus PG279Q.
27" 1440p 144hz + Gsync is the sweet spot at the moment. 4K is limited to 60Hz at the moment and at 27" you might see things a bit small.

My best recommendation is to take a look at 1440p and 4K monitors in person. go to a store just for reference and try to look at them at the distance you currently do at home to make the best decision. (everyone's eyes are different and people care about different things, this is pretty much a personal choice)
