What motherboard do I get?

I am very strict on cash (with Christmas and all) and I need a new motherboard because my old msi amd fm2 motherboard burnt out (the day after its warranty expired FRIGGEN MSI!). Anyway I have been searching many threads and I wanted to know whether I get a 1151 or 1150 intel chipset and what motherboard to go with it. PLEASE HELP PC FRIENDS!

If you had an FM2+ mobo then I guess you have an FM2/FM2+ CPU. Such CPU is not compatible with neither LGA1151 not 1150. It is only compatible with FM2/FM2+ mobos. Are you upgrading the CPU as well?

My Mobo burned out so I got rid of it and sol my old core as it was bottlenecking my GPU. I am basically looking for a new Mobo and CPU that are intel as the AMD cpu's and apu's have been discontinued as they are focusing on their new chips or whatevs.

My Specs are (what is left)
-Gtx 960
-Corsair Vengance 650 watt
-1tb HDD
-60GB SSD

(If the Mobo is DDr4 I would need a new ram kit)

If you're gonna have to start from ground zero anyway, go with 1151. I wouldn't recommend a 1150 to 1151 upgrade (not much difference in performance), but in your case, there's no point to buying old tech, since you have to buy all new, anyway.

For 1151, probably not, at least not as good as what you could get while keeping your DDR3 RAM and going with 1150. For $300 you're looking at low end 1151 parts.

I didn't say he couldn't do it, just that it would be lower end parts, which aside from the CPU, is what you suggested, lol.

The motherboard is cheap due to its chipset, not necessarily its quality. It is a solid motherboard and he doesn't need to spend $150 on a Z board if he is not going to overclock and use Z170 features.

If they are both solid-quality motherboards, there is no difference. The difference is mostly in the chipset - higher end chipset means more features (example: Z170 has overclocking). If you don't need those features, there is no reason to get a more expensive board. The one I recommended is decent quality and will work just fine.

I looked around and couldn't find that mobo on msy. However, I found this MSI Bazooka mobo that was in my price range. Does this motherboard have any downsides? I realise it is quite small almost an itx
