I was originally going to buy the Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Ultra, but is that overkill at $240? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Yes that's what I would get MSI - MAG Z390 TOMAHAWK ATX LGA1151 Motherboard but what's your CPU chip set the ATX LGA Z390 is a 1151 chip set need to mach
your CPU chip set with the new board. And I think this board will support pcie M.2 as in sumsung's 970 pro NVMe. m2
