Should I go for the ASUS Z97-AR or the Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 5 or possibly the Gigabyte Mod 1150 GBT G1.Sniper Z97 ATX Motherboard? Any other recommendations will be taken into consideration. price doesn't matter. it will be for a gaming system with an intel 4790k, in a Enthoo Pro M Window Edition case with a dark rock 3 cooler.

I would go for the MSI or ASUS. I personally really like MSI Gaming 5 I think MSI has really been stepping it up lately. I also like the ASUS mainly because of the BIOS their fan control software is excellent and the layout of the BIOS is very intuitive and easy to use.
With Skylake now available, there is absolutely no question in my mind that a new build should be Skylake.
a. Prices for cpu, z170 motherboard and ddr4 ram are almost precisely the same.
b. 6600K has an estimated 5-10% performance improvement per clock over haswell.
c. 14nm runs cooler, you get a decent overclock without the need for exotic cooling.
d. The Z170 chipset permits the use of much faster ssd devices on the horizon. Samsung 950 pro for example:

e. skylake can be upgraded in the future to kaby lake.

For gaming, the i5-6600K is just as effective as the more expensive i7-6700K.
They both will oc to the same 4.6+ level.
Few games will use more than 2-3 cores so the hyperthreads of a i7 are largely irrelevant.

i appreciate the suggestion, but my apologies as i forgot to mention that i already have this system but my mobo was faulty, twice! so i am now looking for a different one entirelly.
