What motherboard would you recommend for use in a server for Windows Server 2012 R2?

I am studying IT and have a project which includes me having to write a recommendation for the hardware required to build a new server running Windows Server 2012 R2 for a business with branches across Australia. I have no idea where to start so I thought I would ask your opinion.
