Early version of AMD desktop A-series APUs, namely the Trinity and Richland APUs were compatible with motherboards having FM2 sockets. But the Kaveri version of APUs required motherboards with FM2+ socket. Now there is a slight difference in pin configuration between the two sockets as the comparatively newer FM2+ socket carried two additional pin sockets. The FM2+ socket can easily accomodate APUs that were FM2 compatible without a worry, but those APUs that require FM2+ socket, the Kaveri version of the A series APUs in this case, will not fit in a motherboard having a FM2 socket.
