What options do I have to increase storage if everything runs off 1 SSD?

Hey, I recently inherited a custom build. It had one Samsung SSD which Windows runs off of AND which seems to be doubling as the C:/ drive... Long story short the SSD is only 250gb and I've run out of space.

I just wanted to understand what would normally be the case to do as I've never done this before and I'm a bit unsure: Would I just buy a larger SSD and copy the old to the new? Or do I buy an HDD and use that for storage but keeping windows to boot from the SSD still (if so how do I do this?)

Solution
First of all, do what you can to eliminate unused junk.
Run diskcleanup for starters.

As to increased capacity, you have two choices, depending on your budget.

1. Buy a HDD storage drive. Not a bad option if your storage needs are for large sequential files such as videos.

2. Buy a larger ssd. This is very good for performance and the best option if budget is not a big issue.
I would opt for a Samsung evo of 500gb or larger.
Use the free Samsung ssd migration app to move your C drive to the larger ssd.
Then boot from the new ssd and you are done.
You can repurpose the old 240gb ssd for whatever you want.
If you have a laptop with a HDD, replacing it with the ssd will be a magical boost in performance.

1. get a 1TB HDD, slap it in
2. in windows you can move all video, pictures documents to the d drive by changing location (right click properties)
3 rest is applications and games, steam games permit a uninstall and reinstall quickly to new driver and not loose data player has.

Many thanks for the reply Paladin, I don't mind going for the 500gb EVO instead however I tend to run a lot of 3d modelling softwares on it and end up needing large volumes so maybe it'll have to be an HDD

If you go for a 500gb ssd, you will, in essence have added 750gb to your pc since you can repurpose your 240gb ssd as extra work storage that is particularly fast.

The best use of a HDD is for storage of large sequential files such as videos.
