I used a thicker grade of paper for photos and ran out of ink. Does printing on thick stock copy paper use more ink then photo paper?

Solution

There is no simple answer. The amount of ink depends on:

1. Printer (HP/CANON/LEXMARK = uses thermal technology in their printheads, EPSON/BROTHER = micropiezo)
2. Printer properties - the amount of ink used by printer also depends on selected print quality (for example if You choose as print quality: ONLY TEXT, printer will use less ink).
3. Type of document that You want to print (high quality images - like 300dpi = much more ink)

So, If You printing high quality and large in size images Your printer will consume more ink (no matter what type of paper You are using), and if You set printing...

So, If You printing high quality and large in size images Your printer will consume more ink (no matter what type of paper You are using), and if You set printing quality to Normal / Medium the usage of ink will be a bit less. Keep in mind that all printers are preforming printhead cleaning before printing, at start (trun on), repleacing ink cartridge, and some when You turn them off - that also consumes a bit of ink.

If You are interested in low-cost high quality printing (large photos etc...) my suggestion is to buy Epson printer + CISS (constant ink suplly system) i'm using it and in my humble opinion its the best solution.
