This is the user manual. It says DVI but doesn't specify which type if that makes a difference. It also says hdmi and vga but im not sure if those support 144hz
No. It doesn't say that. Nvidia dropped support for VGA with this series of cards. Look at page six. Display port x3, HDMI, and DVI-D. It doesn't say DVI-D, but I assure you it's a DVI-D and not a DVI-I port. As mentioned above this can vary depending on the model you buy. But this is the standard layout.
You get 144Hz by using DVI or DP. The HDMI port might work, but the other two are more common. The monitor you get can matter. If it has an HDMI 1.2 port it won't do 144Hz. (From what I know you need an HDMI 2.0 port for 144Hz, and even then it might not work.) If you stick with DP or DVI you should be fine.
