what ports would be usable with SLI 980's

so, something ive started to wonder with these new nvidea cards that are coming out, if i got 2 980's, and run them in SLI, with the intention of using 3 screens, 2 with DVI, and 1 with HDMI, does it matter, would it matter what card/port i plug my monitors into? (for the sake of argument, to run surround)

You will have to use the ports on the primary card, which is usually the top.

well, thats a thing then. like i said, 2 of my current monitors use DVI, that said if i plan of playing GTA V on tri-monitors, one of them would have to get adapted to display port, or should i get 2 970's so i get 2 DVI ports on the primary card? whats your opinion, would you get the 980's and get a $25 display port adapter, or get 2 970's and have 2 DVI rite on the card?

If Im not mistaken if you use more than 3 monitors you have to have one display port in there.
I would go with what suits your performance goals, and then get the necessary adapters you may need.

i decided to get some display port adapters, just so that its done with, and i can use the 980's no worries.
