This is going to be my pc setup. I dont think I will ever do SLI but maybe Overclocking

CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core Processor ($378.99 @ SuperBiiz)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($26.98 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: MSI X99S SLI Plus ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard ($199.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-2666 Memory ($164.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($97.95 @ OutletPC)
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($52.49 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB ACX 2.0+ Video Card ($649.99 @ Amazon)
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro ATX Full Tower Case ($99.99 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: EVGA 1050W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($134.99 @ NCIX US)

Does it matter what type of power supply I get? Is watt the only indication of what type of power supply I should buy? Is the power supply above overkill?

"Does it matter what type of power supply I get?"
Yes it matters. Types are ATX, SXF, TFX etc...different sizes for large or small cases.

"Is watt the only indication of what type of power supply I should buy?"
No. Continuous available 12volt amperage is the key factor.

"Is the power supply above overkill?"
Yes. You don't need that much power for a single GPU. 650 watts from a high quality PSU is fine.
