Hello I'm building a gaming computer and I have a Asus prime z270m plus motherboard and am planning on the i7 7700k with a GTX 1080 64gb ram with Corsair hydro seriesH100i v2 extreme performance liquid cooler, 480gb intel ssd, with a 4tb hdd 7200rpm. Which is my plan for my build I'm just curios what power unit I should buy should I use 1000wat or should I use a 750?

Solution
for gaming 16GB is already overkill

there's not a single game that uses more than 8.5GB RAM as of today to my knowledge

16GB is all you need for gaming, 32GB when you're into some heavier/advanced editing

Awesome thanks I wasn't sure just like one not sure whether I should do 64gb or 32gb I mean the board maxes out at 64 at 3866mhz but I'm not sure if that is exactly needed for gaming. I'm really just going to be using the computer for gaming and maybe some light internet or Netflix. But the brunt of it will be gaming.

Awesome thanks I greatly appreciate it.

Ya the only game I know of that chews up ram that I have heard myself is Ark survival evolved. My friend is running 16gb on his and apparently ark is bogging his computer down.

yeah well if ARK uses 7.5 and Windows uses 2-3 and he only got 8, then there will be some issues^^

difference in gaming is barely noticeable. we're talking about less than 6 fps and this only in game like Fallout 4 that likes faster RAM
most games show very little to no difference.

Oh ok... so I should be good at 2133 or even 2400 rather than lying a premium for higher MHz

it's hard to say if this will always be like that.
DDR4 is still quite young
in the future it might be that games will profit off faster RAM.
or they won't.

but paying premium is certainly not worth it.
also anything above 3000MHz with Skylake was quite hard to get to work without OCing the CPU
dunno if Kaby Lake has the same issues.

Oh too easy I'll stick with 2400 for now then.

I have been having a lot of debates about what I want in my computer. I'm actually upgrading from console gaming to computer gaming so this will be my first rig that isnt a pentium 2. Lol

It's the same with the gtx 1080 vs the strix gtx 1070 OC gaming.

generally, when going for the 1070 or the 1080 paying extra for an OC model of one of the better series (Asus Strix, Gainward Phoenix, MSI Gaming, Gigabyte G1, Palit Gamerock, EVGA FTW...) is not worth it as with Boost 3.0 they perform just the same

the difference between an ASUS Strix OC and the regular ASUS Strix is non existent.
Save your cash there. go for a good series and pick the cheapest from that series.

So if I get the 1070 I should still see good rates in the 4K gaming even without the oc

for 4k I suggest going for a 1080

but there are for example the ASUS Strix 1080, ASUS Strix Advanced 1080 and where I live they are both around 720€ while the Asus Strix OC costs 835€
for 115€ extra you gain maybe 5fps (for the 1080 the Strix OC clocks in fact a bit higher, but not worth the premium price).

Oh ok ya here it's like 925 for the GTx 1080 and then more for
The strix OC and then so on.

Where I can get the 1070 strix or the ASUS 1070 for 599 or 535.
Realistically I'm connecting my rig to a 60" led smart tv max res is 1080p

yeah well

general thumb rule is:

1080p/60Hz --> Rx480/GTX1060
1080p/144Hz or 1440p/60Hz --> GTX1070
2160P/60Hz --> GTX1080
...for max settings.

of course if you disable some settings (like AA which really isn't necessary at 4k for example) you can boost a 1070 to 4k without bigger problems.

a 1070 is a good "future proof" choice for a 1080p display and a 2k display, for 4k you'll look at medium settings for most games (although a friend of mine uses a Strix 1060 to game LoL at 4k on high settings without issues. so it depends on the game as well)

Lol my real thing is just being able to have games play smooth and look really good. I'm just trying to decide if over 1000 for a 1080 is actually worth it for me or would I be happy with the 1070.

well it always depends from what you're upgrading

for 1080p a GTX1080 is a waste of money.
for 4k on med settings a GTX1070 will do a good job.
honestly - my opinion - for that kind of price difference, you can get a 1070 now and if you need more juice a 1170 in a year or so and get more performance for less money...

Do you think I would have any clearance issues if I put a nocturnal by-d14 six heatpipe dual radiator on my ASUS prime z270m plus motherboard?
