I always suggest Antec, Corsair, Seasonic, XFX. You can add to that list anything made by Super Flower, most of the Enermax, and some of the PC Power and Cooling. For a read on what manufacturer makes what look here http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-supply-oem-manufacturer,2913-8.html
So the Rosewill Lightning, Tachyon, and Capstones are made by Superflower so those are recommended but I don't recommend just any Rosewill supply.

Now this one is pretty dated but you will find your Ultra in Tier 5 (get rid of right away) http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx
Because it is so dated I didn't say get rid of it immediately. I save that statement for Logisys, Apevia, Diablotek and those generics that no one have ever...
Andyson makes that Ultra supply. They are all over the board on quality so it is up for debate. If they gave you a lifetime warranty that probably means they are trying but remember if it fails they only replace the supply not any components that it takes down with it.

The 680 should have a good 550W supply. It might be worth the risk with the 650W but that is what it is, a risk.

I am not sure why you titled your thread "what PSU do I need?" if you already have a PSU and only wish to determine compatibility...

i was half asleep when i was posting this and i came across a gtx 680 for 250$ brand new. So im sorry for the confusion, im looking to see if my current 650W psu will be sufficient enough to run.

why would i go with a good 550w if i have a decent 650w?

"What you have is a moderately reliable power supply. It's not the best in the world, but it's fine - DarkSable"
how much of a risk is it? Also what is a psu you would suggest?

Here is a good site for recommended buys http://www.johnnylucky.org/power-supplies/psu-recommendations.html

Now my recommendation is the Seasonic Gold that is a daily Deal TODAY at Newegg

That is a good buy at $80

That is a nice buy, Would that be good enough for future sli or the 680? I may be interested in sli for future use.

It's a moot point now, but it would actually cover SLI 680s just fine; that power supply can deliver up to almost 800w without even breaking a sweat, and still keep up silver standards for efficiency.

That being said, I'm just going to throw out my normal thing now, because nobody has said anything:

Don't buy a 680. They're only 5% faster than a 670, but cost 20% more. That means you're paying another $100 for 4-6fps more than a card that can already max out pretty much any game at 1080p.

I state it again: the 680 is an absolute waste of money. A 670 will do everything it can, for less money.

I have already bought the 680. I found it brand new for 275$, which is cheaper than the 670. Anyways, how can a 650w deliver 800w?

Im not annoyed at all, and appreciate all the help. I completely understand, and honestly would have gone with the 670 over the 680 off of that observation. I'm a poor college student trying to build a good PC for school. Im going into game design and wanted to build something within budget to help me be able to do my school work at home instead of sitting at school all day, which is over an hour away from my house. Also I dont know much about psu's (obviously) and just trying to learn and ask questions while people are willing to help. This is my first computer build and i'm quite pleased with its turn out. I know i can only choose one best solution but everyone has been really helpful! thank you!
