What PSU should I buy?

I am looking for a 500w PSU to buy, my computer is usually on for about 8 hours a day, my current psu is a SPARKLE FSP300-60THA 300W ATX12V Power Supply, but does the psu have to be atx12v? would it work if its anything else?

I don't even know how you would find a new non-ATX power supply today. Is this question being driven by some specific PSU?

There's quite a few TFX, Flex-atx, SFX psus available that aren't even close to ATX dimensions.

Op, your best bet is something like a corsair CXM 550w, Seasonic S12-II 520w/620w, whichever is on sale cheaper.

Yes, that takes a ATX PSU. The most common PSU. And yes, you need to stay with an ATX. The ones Karadjgne lists are good choices, but there are many others too. Here are some 500W I would choose depending if I were on a very strict budget... up to no budget at all. http://
